Showing of The Railway Children Return (2022)

On Friday 20th February, The Blue Town Criterion hosted a special screening of The Railway Children Return.

With an excellent turnout and a 37-strong audience, we enjoyed a delightful film set in Yorkshire during the Second World War. There were some lovely interconnections with the original The Railway Children, including the return of the original protagonist, Jenny Agutter, this time playing the grandmother. The famous use of a white sheet to capture attention was also beautifully revisited, providing a touching nod to the earlier film.

With many beautiful shots of a steam train rolling through green pastures, and with the railway station serving as one of the story’s central locations, it was a truly charming and visually stunning movie.

The Blue Town Criterion Friday Afternoon Film Club

The film was shown as part of the Blue Town Criterion’s Film Club, which boasts a truly fantastic programme of films. Tickets are just £5, making it an accessible and welcoming event for everyone. Each week, a different film is screened, with the café open beforehand for lunch. There’s an interval halfway through, offering the chance to enjoy tea and cake before the second half begins. It’s a wonderful coming together of the community — sharing the experience of cinema in the grand blue-and-gold Music Hall.
