East Kent Artists Open House

I “HEART” SHEPPEY

EKC Sheppey Secondary School is a flagship station adopter, adopting all 5 train stations along the Swale Rail Line (Sittingbourne, Kemsley, Swale, Queenborough and Sheerness).

Across the 2024/25 academic year, pupils worked on a very special project called I “HEART” SHEPPEY where they created artwork for each of the stations. For this process each class group researched the local area and aspects they felt drawn to include in the artwork. Using these ingredients and inspirations they came together and created a very special collective mural for each station.

In the future we hope to install a posterboard at each station along the Swale Rail Line to display this beautiful artwork, and share future creative projects created by EKC Sheppey Secondary pupils which shine a light on our love of the local area.

The original canvases were on display for the East Kent Artists Open House weekends across the 11th and 18th October 2025.

Envisioning Rail: Past, Present and Future

To celebrate Railway 200, with the anniversary falling just a few weeks before on 27th September 2025, EKC Sheppey Secondary Pupils spent the past 6 weeks focussing their creative inspirations on the evolution of rail. Exploring the technological changes all the way from Steam to the High Speed Javelins, they created some wonderful drawings, poetry and writing.

Included here is just a snapshot of the creative masterpieces on show at the exhibition. A very big congratulations go to all the artists involved and to the teaching team for their support in bringing it all together.

We are incredibly lucky to have Nikita-Dean Hart (a talented local videographer) creating a special film capturing the essence of the project, which we hope to share with you later this year.
