Kent Community Rail Partnership began working on community based projects with Sheppey Secondary in 2024, building on our established relationship with East Kent College Group.
Station Adoption
Our first collaboration with Sheppey Secondary was to arrange for them to become station adopters for all five stations on the Swale Rail line, taking out a Community Rail Network Station Adoption Membership for each one.
Station adoption membership gives access to CRN’s Small Grant Fund, which Sheppey Secondary will use to support its project work. They have also bid successfully to Southeastern’s Customer and Community Investment Fund to further enhance these activities.
Railway 200 Singing Train
More than just a train ride, the Railway 200 Singing Train was a celebration of heritage, youth talent and community spirit.
The Year 7 choir created a twenty minute set, with students singing uplifting melodies that filled the concert carriage with harmonies and heart, leaving people smiling and singing all the way home. The Choir performed their set again at our Sheerness Music and Film Celebration at the Criterion Heritage Centre in September.
Art Exhibition 2025
Across the 2024/25 academic year, pupils worked on a very special project called I “HEART” SHEPPEY, where they created artwork for each of the stations. For this process each class group researched the local area and aspects they felt drawn to include in the artwork. Using these ingredients and inspirations they came together and created a very special collective mural for each station.
The original canvases were on display for the East Kent Artists Open House weekends across the 11th and 18th October 2025.
A posterboard will be installed at each station along the Swale Rail Line to display this beautiful artwork, and share future creative projects created by EKC Sheppey Secondary students, which will shine a light on their love of the local area.
The Future
We continue to develop our relationship with Sheppey Secondary to deliver positive experiences for their students and our communities.
